Harris County Municipal Utility District No. 504 (HCMUD 504) conducted a fire hydrant survey and approved the list of repairs recommended by the District’s operator and engineer.
The Board believes that fire hydrant repairs are a top priority and want to ensure that no issues occur when firefighters need to access water for an emergency or when the operator is using them for line flushing . Following the maintenance cycle on the hydrants, the Board also authorized having them painted for an improved appearance.
Maintenance of the fire hydrants can include replacing rusted or broken parts, inserting new gaskets and fasteners, and lubricating moving parts. Painting often includes sand- or water-blasting to remove old paint and debris, and care is taken to enclose the hydrant during this step to prevent impact to resident fences or homes.
The District hopes to complete this project quickly and efficiently and thank the residents for their patience while this work is in process.
