Holiday Vacation Watch

If you’re planning to travel for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any part of the holiday season, don’t forget to take advantage of the free Vacation Watch service available to Harris County Municipal Utility District No. 504 (HCMUD 504) residents through the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office.

While you're away, Precinct 4 deputies can keep an extra eye on your home to help provide peace of mind—all at no cost to you.

How to Request a Vacation Watch

To request a Vacation Watch, fill out the online form. You’ll be asked for a few details to help deputies monitor your home effectively:

  • Will you leave any lights on?
  • Are pets staying in the home?
  • Do you have an alarm system, and will it be armed?
  • Will anyone have authorized access to the home?
  • Will any vehicles be left in the driveway?
  • Who can be contacted in an emergency?

Submit your request at least 3 days before departing for the holidays.

If you’re leaving sooner, go ahead and complete the form, but also call the Precinct 4 dispatch line at (832) 927-6200 to expedite your request.

Please also remember to update the Constable’s Office if your plans change or if someone new will be checking on your home.

Tips for Keeping Your Home Safe While You're Away

  • Notify Your Alarm Company: Let them know you’ll be out of town and add Precinct 4 as a contact.
  • Use Light Timers: Automatic lights can help your home appear occupied during the darker winter evenings.
  • Leave a Car in the Driveway: A vehicle can deter burglars—just make sure it’s locked and empty.
  • Make Pet Arrangements: Leave clear instructions and emergency contacts with your sitter or boarding facility.
  • Ask a Neighbor or Friend to Check In: They can bring in mail, water plants, and keep your home looking lived in.
  • Hold Your Mail: Avoid a full mailbox by placing a hold request with USPS.
  • Share a Backup Contact: Leave an alternate contact with Precinct 4 just in case.
